bird flight wall

Set in the woods, this project was inspired by the birds that regularly move through the property. The top of the wall was designed to reflect the movement of birds in flight—how they dip, glide, and flap their wings—using vertical capstones and a crosshatch stacking technique to create an undulating form throughout the wall. 

Bordering a garden space that will continue to evolve, this wall is one of the first features visible when arriving at their home. The couple wanted the space to feel welcoming, lighthearted, informal, and playful, which guided the overall design approach. Small nooks were also built into the wall to hold found objects and natural materials collected over time, allowing the wall to to evolve alongside the landscape and the couple’s connection to the space.
